Long distance commuting

Anyone do this?

My job search is taking me further afield than I originally planned and I have been invited to interviews in Essex (76 miles) and Bristol (94 miles). Both mostly motorway so probably an acceptable time on the road.

Aside from the fact that Bristol would mean filling up twice a day like so many others I have not found the perfect screen. My choices at the mo are the MRA...

FZ1 Chain conversion

Can anyone advise me on the best places to buy bits to do a 525 chain conversaion on an FZ1, keeping standard gearing and using a steel rear sprocket?

Yes I know the pros and cons, thats why Im not going for a 520 - Im compromising

my fazer thou is now laid up for winter in fact its probably only done 150miles since Mikes wonderful skills took place in Oct

question is , i tend to give the bike a start up and run in the shed , just to make sure she's okay and to flow some fuel through , so i can keep popping the odd gall of fresh in to prevent stagnation etc .

the other day i started up and let her warm up...

I need to change a Gen 1 fork seal again.Although I have done this job before I cannot remember or find out the size of the hold back tool to stop the cartridge spinning. Ie what size nut do I need to weld to a rod to undo the bottom Allen bolt?. This time I shall write the answer in my Haynes manual ready for next time! Thank you in anticipation. N.

The FJR is a super touring bike - screen,tank range,luggage,comfort etc etc.
But it remains a bit heavy (someone said lardy) and lacking in the excitment stakes.
I find myself tempted to buy summat else for next years lunacy fix. Don't know what , maybe a Gen 2 again ,or a Blade/K9/R1 for track days and early spring mornings.
So..when's the best time to get one?
After the show ?
Last day of the year?

Monorack Arms for a Fazer FZS 1000 2004

Yesterday I went to Hein Gerike to purchase some monorack arms for my new
Fazer Thou 2004, I asked if they would for my M5 plate from my Fazer 600
2003 and I got a yes, yes they will. I collected said arms today after being suprised
how quickly they where delivered. The looked a bit diffrent but I though ah it's
just probably because its a Thou not a 600. I got home and started fitting the arms
they go onto the frame fine but the bit that holds the plate is at a...

Blacking Up

Thinking of blacking up the rear end i.e rear pegs, front pegs etc. Has anybody done this, would appreciate pictures. Thought satin matt black powder coating would be best although I do use a company that offer a black anodising service ...any suggestion (polite ones) ??.

ABS Light

Started my gen 2 in the garage tonight, put it into gear, and at about 10mph the ABS light started flashing. Now the damn thing won't go off. Any ideas folks? Apart from burning it!

Brake pads

Think I'm going to treat my self to some new brake pads. But........you can get sintered this and double H that, organic, supersport.....i just want some bloomin brake pads that work in all weathers and don't eat my discs - any ideas?

What do you reckon the average mileage is that you should be getting out of your pads?

hi all

what can i say bought me another fazer 1000 yesterday, the red one in the for sale section, got it home yesterday picked up a new battery on the way home, please note this bike has been standing for 18 months only left to tick over in frequently, don't even know when last started.

any way went out this morning with new battery put bike in top gear on main stand and gave rear wheel a spin to make sure every thing turns ok , put back into neutral hit the button...

Heavy clutch on a Fazer Thou

Hi all ,
I just bought myself an 02 Fazer thou - and what bike it is - very pleased. Only problem I have is the very heavy clutch. It is a real pain in traffic. Is the heavy clutch normal for the Fazer Thou?
I've had Fazer 600 and an FJR before the clutch felt like feather compare to that! I adjusted the lever so it is a bit closer to the bars and tried oiling both ends but not much difference.
The bike has done about 34k miles.
Should I go for a new cable? How much do...

Been in hospital for 3 weeks now and im sure im starting to go totaly nuts, even in this realy shite weather i want to be out on my bike, all i can think of is my bike rotting away and killing its battery while i sit here
at least on monday i should finaly be heading to thearter, recovery before i can ride is ment to be 4 weeks....... my arse bet im riding in 1 :P
