We learnt this morning that my son's very best mate at school sadly took his own life last night.
It was my lad's 16th birthday yesterday so we went out for a family meal, on returning home his mate's mother rang Simon to see if he knew where their son might be. I also sent a text to his mobile asking him to phone me as I knew him well from rugby.
At just before 8 o'clock this morning the police came round to see us and advised that sadly he had been found dead at his home late yesterday evening. Simon has been deeply upset, as has our younger daughter who often larked around with both of them when he had a sleepover.
He was a popular and well liked lad, both at school and in the rugby club and will be sorely missed by many people. I cannot begin to imagine what his parents must be going through at this time.
