I am after an entry level/mid level Digital SLR with a good platform for lenses. The picture quality has to be good. I am after something with maybe 10MP or more that is relatively easy to use (as the wife will have to use it as a point and shoot camera from time to time. My budget is £300 - £350 and I don't mind if it's slightly used or brand new, so long as the shots are good. Any recommendations? I have looked at Eaby and there seem to be a lot of dodgy bits of equipment out there! Thanks S

At least to give you an idea. There's always Which? and plenty of digital camera magazines. Canon and Nikon do good mid-range DSLRs, although with your price range they might be over budget, so used may be an option.

I work for a well known camera/surveying equipment manufacturer, but their products are usually way out of my price range. However, I have been offered a Leica Digilux 2 factory refurbished unit for the paltry cost of £250. I'm guessing that this might just be a shrewd purchase..... What do you think? Ta S

Dont chase MP, eight is more than enough. I've gone down from a 12.4mp DSLR to an 8 and a 10, and the 30D is the best camera i've ever owned. Better than my 10mp 40D because the image quality is better, colour is better and noise is lower.

I have the D70s and when I picked up the D40 it felt way too light, put a big lens on the front and there's nothing to counterbalance it. The D40 has fewer functions and is thereby "simpler", but I'd prefer the D80. The D80 is the replacement for the D70s with better resolution and improved functionality and I have to say it's a damn nice camera (I just can't justify spending out one!)

I have to admit I'm tempted, but I think I really want to go down the DSLR route and have a camera for which I can buy additional lenses. Thanks anyway. I tried the Leica out yesterday and although it is fairly good it's not that much better than my Leica DMC FZ7 really and I want a bit more versatlility form my camera. That said, if anyone wants to buy a Leica Digilux 2 for £250 get in touch and you can have it. I'll buy it on your behalf and you can then own a very nice 'manual' digital camera.
