Started 6 months ago on 3 months probation - hard to fill role, good salary and a car, pleased to get him in.
One of his objectives was to get close to our main clients, his interpretation of this is to agree with everything they say (no matter how bizarre) to get them on board and make them his mates whilst simultaneously failing to deliver ANY of the objectives I set him - didn't even reply to e-mails - and - poor sickness/timekeeping record.
So......... Failed three month probation, very upset employee!!
Saw something in him so gave him the benefit of the doubt and extended the probation so that he could try again -but.....more of the same, nothing delivered, deadlines missed, written work appalling, so I advised him verbally and then in writing that we would not confirm him in post.
Failed extended probation - 'very unfair' - very upset......
(This is where we should have said enuff!!)
Business changing, chatted to my regional director, ''with his background and experience, he may be able to do a different role for us in a newly revised structure -would mean a demotion and salary cut??''.................had a chat, not happy but give it a go.
New role...........
Does not deliver, no replies to e-mails, timekeeping getting worse...........................
I know I know -what did I expect, no doubt setting myself up for the obvious critique, but we've tried everything and it makes me despair that a supposed professional can be so unwilling to sieze the chances we have given him!
Only going one way now
,
had enough - bugger bugger bugger.

, original job which this bloke failed
at (twice) has been filled and a new lad starts in August. His new role was sort of designed specifically as a test for him to prove his worth - if he screws
up then it's unlikely we'd bother to fill it again, just move the work around others in the business (it's all been rather too painful TBH).
- we now consider ourselves as a consulting and business services group
'that provides design, managerial and engineering services' - but I'm still tied up with one of the engineering/property wings of the business, employing engineers (M&E) /surveyors/architects
etc.
