I've spend 3 days taking my carbs apart and cleaning them to standards inside and out that you could eat your dinner off, all degreased and cleaned with
carb cleaner, and all passages and jets blown out with an air line, and 2 of the jets were very dirty and about 60% blocked with muck.
After the overhaul, the bike starts and idles very very smoothly and quietly now, and it sounds a feels much better, but the big problem i have is that there is no midrange at all, and i'm talking like the engine has been turned off sort of no midrange !
I start the bike with almost no choke, and it settles quickly into a smooth and stable idle, and i let it warm up for 5 minutes, and then if you give it very gentle blips, it responds and revs cleanly, but if you give it a handfull, it stutters and sounds like it is going to stall
I then took it out onto the road, and going round my estate at under 30mph using less than 20% throttle, its fine, responds nicely and pulls cleanly to speed, but when i got to the 60 limit, if you open the throttle any more than 25%, its tapers off, and if the revs are below 6000 revs, then opening the throttle any more does actually kill the engine like you have flicked the engine cut button, but if i manage to get it over 6000 revs, then full throttle works and it pops a little wheelie and takes off like sh*t off a shovel, but only at full throttle and above 6000 revs
I thought it was the idle air speed screws out of adjustment, as i didnt make a note of their positions before i took the carbs apart, so just set them all to 2.5 turns out, but it does the above behaviour, so i reset them all to 2 turns out, and it made no difference at all.
So, has anyone with carb experience got any ideas what i might have done wrong ?, i was brought up on injectors and can do anything with a laptop and k line interface with a set of injectors, but i am very new to carbs and how they work and how to adjust them
Thanks
