Insurance policy that covers any bike! |
Lead | |
|
I have been doing some searching for a new insurance policy, but I can't find any information about how it works! I know that bike sure does it, does
anyone have a policy that covers any bike?
Cheers

Are you talking about a policy that allows you to own and ride as many bikes as you want, or a policy that allows you to ride bikes that other people own and
have insurance for, if it's the former then your looking at a specialist dealer type policy, if it's the latter then most policies (and I'm not
saying all here) have a clause that allows you to ride any bike that's insured by it's owner under 3rd party insurance, so basically you can ride it
but prang it and the owner might not be best chuffed.

No it is the latter, I can't seem to find a clause in any insurance policy that allows it! For example is there a cc/age restriction? Thanks

Insurance co.s vary in policy terms and I think there was some talk of taking this 3rd party cover out. Lots of them do not include this cover. Check directly
with your insurer if you are unsure.
On my policy, which is fully comp, the terms are listed under the 3rd party cover section and allow me to ride other (insured) bikes 3rd party. On my Equity Red Star policy the wording, under 'Section 1 - Liability to others', basically states: Driving other vehicles Cover for death or injury to other people or damage to property as a result of any accident, while in charge of the vehicle Provided my insured bike > 351cc (no problem here with your FZ6) Does NOT cover: Damage to vehicle I am driving Damage outside of UK I've had a quick scan through the policy and it doesn't appear make a restriction to this based on policy holder's age or CC of the other bike. So I guess it would be ok to borrow a Ducati Desmo, or 2.3 litre Triumph Rocket, and crash it into a Lambo - the damage to the Lambo & any other person would be covered but not the damage to the Duc. BTW I obtained the policy from Yamaha Insurance Services (part of CIA insurance) and when I arranged this policy made sure I had this type of cover as my step dad has a couple of bikes I wanted to try. Hope this helps. |

I am insured through Carole Nash and i am allowed to ride any other bike third party only with owners permission, it also states clearly on my insurance
certificate that i am allowed to, my partner was also insured with Carole Nash and had the same thing on her certificate (but only just passed so never took
advantage of it lol)

Many years ago I was insured with Norwich Union who did a rider policy which covered me to ride any bike upto 1000cc but I dropped it down to 750cc which cost
£150
those were the days..
